News   First Lady Michelle Obama Takes a Trip To Off-Broadway's Hamilton
First Lady of the United States Michelle Obama took a trip to The Public Theater this afternoon to see the April 18 matinee performance of Lin-Manuel Miranda's acclaimed musical Hamilton, about Founding Father Alexander Hamilton. has learned that the First Lady was in the audience for the Saturday matinee, and tweets began to surface with pictures of the security downtown at the Off-Broadway house.








Inspired by the book "Alexander Hamilton" by Ron Chernow, the musical incorporates historical figures such as George Washington, Aaron Burr, James Madison and Thomas Jefferson.

Miranda previously performed a song from Hamilton for President Obama and the First Family at the White House in 2009. Watch the performance below.

The show's sold-out engagement continues through May 3 at the Newman Theater, prior to the musical's Broadway transfer to the Richard Rodgers Theatre, where it will begin performances July 13. The production, featuring a book, music and lyrics by Miranda, will officially open on Broadway Aug. 6.
