News First Timers Win Big at Tonys New blood ran through the veins of the 2011 Tony Awards. Many of the winners not only were first-time winners, but also were making their Broadway debuts this season.

The award for Best Play went to Broadway newcomer Nick Stafford for War Horse, and the awards for Best Score and Best Book of a Musical went to "South Park" creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone, making their Broadway debuts with the help of Avenue Q Tony winner Robert Lopez.

Parker also won for Best Direction of a Musical, along with veteran Casey Nicholaw. Director of a Play went to first-timers Marianne Elliott and Tom Morris of War Horse.

Three winning actors in Featured Roles were making their Broadway debuts: John Larroquette of How to Succeed, Nikki M. James of Book of Mormon and Ellen Barkin of The Normal Heart.

Among designers, first-timers included Mark Wendland of The Merchant of Venice, Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardner of Priscilla Queen of the Desert and Paule Constable and Rae Smith of War Horse.
