Classic Arts News Flamenco Festival Comes to New York's City Center in January City Center's annual Flamenco Festival opens on January 27 with a benefit concert for the World Music Institute.
The gala evening includes the Gypsy dancer Carmen Cort_s, who is known for her performances of flamenco puro; Alejandro Granados, who has performed with the Ballet Espaê±ol de Madrid, the Farruco family, and Noche Flamenca; Carlos Rodr‹guez, founder of Nuevo Ballet Espaê±ol; flamenco star Rocio Molina; and flamenco guitarist Gerardo Nuê±ez, who will also perform with Simon Shaheen, master of the Arab lute (called the 'ud).

The festival runs through January 30, and includes a repeat performance by Cort_s, Granados, Molina, and Nuê±ez on January 28, in a program directed by Jacqulyn Buglisi of Buglisi-Foreman Dance.

On January 29 and 30, Ballet Flamenco Eva Yerbabuena performs Eva, which displays different styles of flamenco, and 5 Mujeres 5, a more contemporary work.
