The six-week run is scheduled to close on Aug. 29, but don't count of it. It closed Aug 2, 1998, after 332 performances. Tango enjoyed a 92-week run at San Francisco's Theatre on the Square a decade ago. After that, it made its way through Europe, Japan and the United States, before settling on Broadway.
Created by Luis Bravo, Forever Tango features popular Argentine songs and forms of the tango, taking the dance from its beginnings at turn of-the-century bordellos to the steps the world recognizes today.
The Shubert is an unusual forum for the revue. The Shubert Organization's flagship venue is typically reserved for high profile musical comedies. In the past 30 years, the theatre has had only six tenants: A Chorus Line, which ran for 15 years, followed by Buddy, Crazy for You, Big, Chicago and Gypsy.
