Classic Arts News Former Met Choreographer Zachary Solov Dies Dancer and choreographer Zachary Solov died Saturday, November 6, the Associated Press reports. He was 81.
From 1951 to 1958, Solov was the chief choreographer at the Metropolitan Opera, where he also staged a number of independent pieces. Afterward, he formed his own company, the Zachary Solov Ballet Ensemble.

Over the course of his career, Solov danced with such companies as George Balanchine's American Ballet Caravan and Eugene Loring's Dance Players.

While in the army in the 1940s, he choreographed and performed in 35 army revues.

Until the mid-1980s, Solov returned periodically to the Met as a guest choreographer.
