News FOX Broadcasts 59th Annual Emmy Awards Sept. 16; Seacrest Hosts Numerous theatre folk are among the nominees vying for trophies at the 59th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards, which will be televised live from Los Angeles Sept. 16 on FOX.

Hosted by Ryan Seacrest, the broadcast from Los Angeles' Shrine Auditorium will begin at 8 PM ET; check local listings.

The national touring company of Jersey Boys, which is currently playing San Francisco's Curran Theatre, will sing songs from that 2006 Tony Award-winning musical as part of a tribute to HBO's "The Sopranos," which ended its run this past season.

Scheduled presenters include Steve Carell, Kyle Chandler, the cast of "Entourage," Kelsey Grammar, Patricia Heaton, Katherine Heigl, Hayden Panettiere, Jimmy Smits, Jon Stewart, Kiefer Sutherland, Kate Walsh, Alec Baldwin, Stephen Colbert, Marcia Cross, Jon Cryer, Ellen DeGeneres, America Ferrara, Tina Fey, Joely Fisher, Brad Garrett, Jennifer Love Hewitt, Julia-Luis Dreyfus and Kyra Sedgwick.

Among nominees of note to theatre folk are Scott Ellis, Rob Marshall, Alec Baldwin, Tony Shalhoub, William H. Macy, Felicity Huffman, Mary-Louise Parker, Edie Falco, Sally Field, Queen Latifah, Harold Wheeler, Elliot Lawrence, Neil Patrick Harris, Jeremy Piven, Rainn Wilson, T. R. Knight, Michael Emerson, Michael Imperioli, Joe Mantegna, Vanessa Williams, Chandra Wilson, Sandra Oh, Toni Collette, Robert Lopez and Jeff Marx.

Tony Award winner Elaine Stritch was among the Emmy winners who were announced at the 59th Creative Arts Emmy Awards on Sept. 8. Stritch won the Emmy for Outstanding Guest Actress in a Comedy Series for her work on "30 Rock." The 60th Annual Tony Awards telecast also picked up an Emmy for Outstanding Special Class Program. Other winners included Stanley Tucci (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series for "Monk"), John Goodman (Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series for "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip") and Spike Lee (Outstanding Directing for Nonfiction Programming for HBO's "When the Levees Broke: A Requiem in Four Acts"). Joan Rivers, who recently workshopped The Joan Rivers Theatre Project at San Francisco's Magic Theatre, will provide Emmy red carpet commentary for VH1 Eyecandy starting at 5 PM via emmyswithjoan.com.
