News Frank Loesser's Runyonland Musical Guys and Dolls Opens at Long Wharf, Oct. 6 Damon Runyon's colorful characters sing and swing in the Frank Loesser-Jo Swerling-Abe Burrows musical as Long Wharf Theatre's staging of Guys and Dolls featuring an on-stage live band, opens Oct. 6.

The season opener for the New Haven, Connecticut company began performances Sept. 29 for a run at the C. Newton Schenck Mainstage through Oct. 31.

Associate artistic director Kim Rubinstein, in her Long Wharf directorial debut, employs a cast of 13 and a five-piece on-stage band for her staging of the musical based on stories and characters by Damon Runyon, featuring music and lyrics by Frank Loesser with a book by Jo Swerling and Abe Burrows.

Ned Eisenberg (The Green Bird) star as Nathan Detroit opposite, Tia Speros (The Taffetas) as Miss Adelaide, Dennis Parlato (She Loves Me, Chess) as Sky Masterson and Tony Award nominee Crista Moore (Jumpers, Big) as Sarah Brown.

The cast also includes Jonathan Brody (Rusty Charlie), Elizabeth Clinard (Mimi / Agatha), Shannon Lee Jones (Gen. Matilda B. Cartwright), Howard Kaye (Harry the Horse), Gannon McHale (Arvide Abernathy), Joshua Odor (Lt. Brannigan), Richard Ruiz (Nicely-Nicely Johnson), William Ryall (Big Jule) and Richard Vida (Benny Southstreet).

Guys and Dolls will feature choreography by Daniel Pelzig and musical direction by Jamie Schmidt. The design team includes G.W. Mercier (sets and costumes), Robert Wierzel (lighting) and Nick Borisjuk (sound). Carrie Ryan provides dramaturgy. The musical filled with gamblers and lovers features the songs "Sit Down You’re Rockin’ the Boat," "If I Were A Bell," "I’ve Never Been in Love Before," "Luck Be A Lady" among others.
