In Mothers and Sons — which will begin performances Feb. 23, 2014, at the John Golden Theatre, where McNally's Tony-winning Master Class premiered in 1995 — Weller (Glengarry Glen Ross, Take Me Out) will portray Cal Porter opposite Daly's Katharine Gerard. Steggert, currently seen on Broadway in Big Fish, will reprise the role of Will Ogden, which he created in the world-premiere engagement at Bucks County Playhouse.
Directed by Tony Award nominee Sheryl Kaller (Next Fall), opening night on Broadway is set for March 24. Daly and Kaller also repeat their work from the June Bucks County production.
Tickets are currently on sale for the production, produced by Tom Kirdahy, Roy Furman, Paula Wagner and Debbie Bisno, and Barbara Freitag and Loraine Alterman Boyle.
Mothers and Sons had its world-premiere production at Bucks County Playhouse, under the producing direction of Jed Bernstein, June 13-23. Also in the production were Tony Award nominees Manoel Felciano (Sweeney Todd, Brooklyn) and Steggert (Ragtime, Giant, Big Fish).
The play, according to press notes, is "about a mother who pays a surprise visit to the New York apartment of her late son's ex-partner, who is now married to another man and has a young son. Challenged to face how society has changed around her—without her—she is finally able to see the rich life her son might have led. Strikingly timely and deeply compassionate, Mothers and Sons is about the evolving definition of family and the healing power of forgiveness." Mothers and Sons will mark McNally's 20th Broadway production. His others include Bad Habits; The Ritz; The Rink; Kiss of the Spider Woman; Love! Valour! Compassion!; Master Class; Ragtime; The Full Monty; and Frankie and Johnny in the Clair de Lune.
