News Free Reading of New Musical A Good Man Presented Aug. 2 and 3 The York Theatre Company’s free readings of the new musical A Good Man will be presented Aug. 2 and 3.

Part of the York’s Developmental Reading Series, the new musical by Ray Leslee and Philip S. Goodman will be offered at 3 PM both days. Directed by Charlie Hensley, the cast features David St. Louis as Albert, Stacey Sargeant as Louella, Stephen Lee Anderson as Tittle, Jacob Ming-Trent as Preacher, Soara-Joye Ross as Lettie, Jesse Means as Augustus, Cheryl Alexander as Granny, John-Martin Green as Hardway and Derrick Middleton as Cooter. A Good Man features music by Ray Leslee and book and lyrics by Philip S. Goodman. William Foster McDaniel will be the musical director and pianist for the two readings.

“Just after World War II,” reads press notes for A Good Man, “‘Prince’ Albert, a black Mississippi sharecropper, decides to paint his tenant house white, and his world turns upside down. He struggles with a desperate wife, a frightened landlord, a sexy sister-in-law looking for a way out, and a furious, closed-minded town.”
