Kaufman, a Tony nominee for his direction of I Am My Own Wife and for his play 33 Variations, will appear in conversation with Berkeley Repertory Theatre artistic director Tony Taccone Oct. 21 at 7 PM. The conversation will kick off a weekend in which Tectonic Theater Project will present "The Laramie Residency: A Decade in the Life of an American Town."
The company will perform The Laramie Project, a documentary theatre piece based on interviews the company conducted related to the murder of gay Laramie, WY, resident Matthew Shepard, Oct. 22 at 8 PM. The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later, an Epilogue, will be performed Oct. 23 at 8 PM.
The work of playwright and author Lydia Davis will be presented in a staged reading Nov. 1 at 7 PM.
Sondheim will serve as the Bookfest Keynote speaker Nov. 6 at 7 PM. He will discuss his new collection of lyrics and anecdotes, Finishing the Hat.
Callaway, a Tony nominee for Baby, will perform "In Good Company: Liz Callaway Sings Sondheim" Nov. 13 at 8 PM. The concert will feature songs from Company, Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and A Little Night Music, among other classic Sondheim shows. The Great Broadway Sing-Along, which will feature songs by Sondheim and another Stephen (Schwartz), as well as Rodgers and Hammerstein, the Gershwins, Cole Porter and more, will be presented Dec. 8 at 8 PM.
A production of Neil Simon's Lost in Yonkers, a Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award-winning play about a dysfunctional Jewish family in 1940s Yonkers, will be performed Jan. 8-16, 2011, at 8 PM (Sundays at 7 PM). Nancy Carlin will direct.
Other events scheduled for the season include SF Circus Center's New Pickle Circus (Jan. 22, 2011, at 5 PM; Jan. 23, 2011, at 11 AM and 2 PM); the revue 'S Wonderful: The New Gershwin Musical (Jan. 29, 2011, at 8 PM); The Virgin Play Series, a series of readings of scripts-in-progress presented by The Magic Theatre (Mondays, March 7-28, 2011, at 7 PM); and The Capitol Steps, a group of satirical performers who often rewrite the lyrics of Broadway show tunes to mock the political goings-on in Washington (March 13 at 2 PM and 5 PM).
