News Fringe Hit Walmartopia to Play Off-Broadway's Minetta Lane Theatre Walmartopia The Musical!, a hit at the 2006 New York International Fringe Festival that also played an encore engagement at the Hypothetical Theatre, will begin an open-ended run at the Minetta Lane Theatre in August.

The musical political satire of "big business and eternal smiley faces" will begin previews Aug. 21 with an official opening Sept. 3. Daniel Goldstein will direct with choreography by Wendy Seyb; casting will be announced shortly.

Walmartopia The Musical! features a book by Catherine Capellaro and a score by Andrew Rohn. The musical, according to press notes, "tells the hilarious and timely tale of Vicki Latrell, a single mom and Wal-Mart employee who speaks out against her company's working conditions and finds herself and her young daughter jettisoned to 2036, into a future where Wal-Mart dominates the entire world."

The design team comprises David Korins (sets), Miranda Hoffman (costumes) and Ben Stanton (lights). Leading Light, LLC and Outside the Big Box Productions, LLC are producing the Off-Broadway engagement.

Show times are Tuesdays-Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 7 PM with matinees Saturdays and Sundays at 3 PM. Tickets, priced $45 and $65, are available by calling (212) 307-4100 or by visiting www.ticketmaster.com.
