News From Page to the Stage: The Piano Tuner Will Get World Premiere in Chicago Lifeline Theatre, the Chicago troupe passionate about adapting literary works and putting them on the stage, will continue its 24th anniversary season with the 2007 world premiere, The Piano Tuner, adapted by Lifeline ensemble member James E. Grote, based on Daniel Mason's novel.

Jonathan Berry directs the work about how "the British War Office wrenches Edgar Drake from his quiet, Victorian life tuning pianos," according to Lifeline. "He must travel to the wilds of war-torn Burma where he meets a mysterious man who believes music is the only chance for peace. A vivid sojourn in an exotic land, this exploration of war and conquest is especially timely today."

Opening is Feb. 12, 2007, following previews from Feb. 2, with performances continuing to March 25.

The creative team also includes Jack Donohue (scenic and prop design), Kevin Gawley (lighting design), David Bareford and Richard Gilbert (fight choreography), Michael Caloia (stage manager), Cortney Hurley (production manager), Lavina Jadhwani (dramaturg), Pat King (assistant director), Meghan Raham (costume design) and Tamara Roberts (sound design).

The cast will include Lifeline ensemble members Patrick Blashill (Edgar Drake) and Shole Milos (Nash-Burnham, others), with guest artists Kurt Ehrmann (Dr. Carroll), Melanie Esplin (Katherine, others), Yosh Hayashi (The Man with One Story, others), Eric Martig (Nok Lek) and Fawzia Mirza (Khin Myo, others).
