News Frozen, Steel Magnolias, Two by Miller and Ludwig's Leading Ladies Set for Houston's Alley Houston's Alley Theatre has announced its upcoming 2004-2005 season, to include the world premiere of Ken Ludwig's Leading Ladies, the Tony Award-nominated Frozen, The Exonerated, a Judith Ivey-directed Steel Magnolias, Steve Martin's The Underpants and Arthur Miller's After the Fall and The Crucible.

The 58th season at the Texas venue includes an eight-play subscription series and special engagements of ¡Cantinflas! (Sept. 7-12) and Culture Clash in AmeriCCa (Sept. 14-18). The full lineup (subject to change) is as follows:

  • The Exonerated by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen (Oct. 1-31)
    Rob Bundy directs the recent Off-Broadway show which retells the stories of six former Death Row inmates who were released from prison after being found innocent.
  • Leading Ladies written and directed by Ken Ludwig (Oct. 15-Nov. 7)
    Two unlucky Shakespearean actors hit bottom as they are reduced to performing in the Amish countryside of Pennsylvania when a wealthy old woman comes looking for her two long-lost heirs. Comedy ensues in the new co-production with Cleveland Playhouse.
  • A Christmas Carol – A Ghost Story of Christmas adapted and directed by Stephen Rayne (Nov. 26–Dec. 26)
    The Alley holiday tradition based on the classic Charles Dickens story.
  • After the Fall by Arthur Miller (Jan. 14–Feb. 6, 2005)
    Gregory Boyd directs the though-autobiographical work about a lawyer who battles demons and women from his past.
  • The Crucible directed by Gregory Boyd (Feb. 22–March 20, 2005)
    The Alley tribute to one of the most celebrated American playwright continues with his classic tale set amid the witch hunts of Salem.
  • The Underpants by Steve Martin (April 1–April 24, 2005)
    Scott Schwartz directs the comedy adapted from Carl Sternheim's German comedy Die Hose in which a housewife becomes quite popular after an unfortunate public incident with her underpants.
  • Frozen by Byrony Lavery (April 8–May 8, 2005)
    Currently presented on Broadway to Tony Award-nominated success, the mature drama about three strangers connected by the tragedy of a missing child will see the Texas stage, (pending rights availability).
  • Steel Magnolias by Robert Harling (May 13–June 5, 2005)
    Actress Judith Ivey directs the story set in small Louisiana town about a group of women who celebrate life's ups and downs together.
