Fun Home’s Beth Malone Joins Broadway’s Angels in America

The full cast is set for the upcoming Broadway revival of Tony Kushner's Angels in America. Tony Award nominee Beth Malone, will play the role of the Angel at select performances, joining previously announced Tony winner Nathan Lane and Oscar and Tony nominee Andrew Garfield, as well Denise Gough, Amanda Lawrence, and Lee Pace.

Malone will share the role of the Angel with Lawrence, who played the part in the production's acclaimed world premiere at London's National Theatre in 2017. Lane, Garfield, and Gough will each reprise their roles as Roy Cohn, Prior Walter, and Harper Pitt, respectively. Emmy nominee Pace will take over the role of Joe Pitt, played by Russell Tovey in London.

Susan Brown, James McArdle, and Nathan Stewart-Jarrett are also reprising their roles from the London staging as Hannah Pitt, Louis Ironson, and Belize, respectively.

Two-time Tony Award winner Marianne Elliott (War Horse, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time) directs the two-part production, which will begin performances February 23 at the Neil Simon Theatre. Opening night is set for March 25.

Rounding out the cast are the newly announced Patrick Andrews, Glynis Bell, Amy Blackman, Curt James, Rowan Ian Seamus Magee, Mark Nelson, Matty Oaks, Genesis Oliver, Jane Pfitsch, Lee Aaron Rosen, Ron Todorowski, Silvia Vrskova, and Lucy York.

Beth Malone earned her first Tony nomination for her portrayal of Alison Bechdel in Fun Home. She also originated the role of June Carter Cash in Ring of Fire on Broadway, as well as the roles of Betty Jean in The Marvelous Wonderettes and Alison in Bingo Off-Broadway. She recently starred in the world premiere of Kathleen Marshall's revised The Unsinkable Molly Brown at the Muny and recently led a development workshop of the production through Roundabout Theatre Company.

Angels in America's two parts, Millennium Approaches and Perestroika, will run in repertory during its 18-week limited engagement on Broadway. Joining NT America Director Tim Levy and Jujamcyn President Jordan Roth as producers is Elliott and Chris Harper's new production company, Eliott & Harper.
