The half-hour comedy, Deadline.com reports, is scheduled to begin production later this year; it will launch in 2015 on a date to be announced.

Based on the 2004 Swedish series "Ulveson And Herngren," "The Comedians" pilot was penned by Larry Charles, Crystal, Matt Nix and Ben Wexler. Charles directed.

The series, according to Deadline, casts Crystal as "a superstar veteran comedian who is reluctantly paired with a younger, edgier comic," played by Book of Mormon's Josh Gad. The cast also features Stephanie Weir, Matt Oberg and Megan Ferguson.

“We’re incredibly excited about 'The Comedians' and the fact that Billy Crystal will be making his return to series television on FX,” FX President of Original Programming Nick Grad said in a statement. “The chemistry between Billy and Josh is amazing, and Larry, Matt, Ben and Billy did a fantastic job of making what is certain to become one of the best comedies on TV.”
