Fall is gala time at the Old Globe Theatre when the cooling San Diego weather brings the annual fundraising party to the venue. This year's "Backstage at the Globe" benefit will be held Oct. 28 at the Sheraton Harbor Island.

Highlighting 65 years of Old Globe history, "Backstage at the Globe" will also toast the 85th birthday of the Old Globe's executive director and former artistic director Craig Noel. Noel has been a fixture as a performer, director and administrator with the theatre since he first appeared in the Globe's 1937 production of John Van Druten's The Distaff Side.

The award-winning Wayne Foster Orchestra will play for the evening's dancing. The gala begins at 6:30 PM with cocktails and a silent auction, followed by dinner. Sheryl Palmer is gala chair, with Forrest and Patsy Shumway as honorary chairs.

Underwriters for "Backstage at the Globe" have a second, private gala Sept. 25. at Laurel Restaurant and Bar. Audrey Geisel, widow of Dr. Theodore Geisel (aka Dr. Seuss), will serve as honorary hostess. Tickets to this event run $5000-$350.
