Call it a case of East going south. Far East, the 1998 A.R. Gurney play, has its regional premiere in Marietta, GA Jan. 16. Theatre in the Square of Marietta, Georgia hosts the play through Feb. 24.

Far East, set during the United States' still-tentative relations with Japan after World War II, follows U.S. officer "Sparky" Watts as he vacillates between his commanding officer, his commanding officer's wife and the Japanese woman he loves. Other plays by Gurney include Love Letters, Sylvia and The Cocktail Hour.

Joe Knezevich stars as Sparky with Evans Colton (Bob), Mark Kincaid (James), Widdi Turner (Reader) and Karen Howell (Julia). A Percussionist (Andrew Davis) and two Stagehands (Julia Burke and Vince Pisani) add to the Kabuki and Noh styles of the play.
