Gordon/Frost Organization and Sports and Entertainment Limited will present The Producers and Hairspray in Australia.

Variety reports The Producers will arrive first, in April 2004, with Hairspray to follow in 2005.

On July 26, Producers lyricist Thomas Meehan told Playbill On-Line to expect the Tony-gobbling musical comedy in Oz. "Australia is happening," stated Meehan, although the librettist did not mention the specific dates. In 2004, The Producers will also open in Berlin, Germany.

Producers Gordon/Frost Organization, led by John Frost, and Sports and Entertainment Limited joined forces 1999. Frost is a veteran Australian, UK and Broadway producer with 17 years experience, whose NYC credits include the 1996 Tony Award-winning The King and I (and subsequent national tour) and Hairspray. Recently, the two mega-producers have funded Australian tours of Man of La Mancha starring Anthony Warlow and Caroline O'Connor, The Wizard of Oz and Footloose, currently on the boards at Sydney's Capitol Theatre.

Both Hairspray and The Producers are expected soon in London. Although no official dates have been confirmed, fall, 2003 has been bandied about for Hairspray and Mel Brooks has said December 2003 or January 2004 for The Producers at the Prince Edward Theatre. Nathan Lane and Matthew Broderick will reprise their Producers roles on the West End.
