News Genie, You're Free: Broadway's Aladdin Remembers Robin Williams With Post-Show Sing-Along (Video) The Broadway cast and creative team at Disney's Aladdin remembered late actor Robin Williams — who created the role of the iconic Genie in the 1992 musical film of the same name — by inviting the audience to sing along with "Friend Like Me" at curtain call.

Lyric sheets were handed out to the entire audience Aug. 12 at Broadway's New Amsterdam Theatre, where the Tony-nominated Best Musical opened March 20, and the audience was asked to sing along in Williams' memory.

James Monroe Iglehart, who embodies the role of the Genie on Broadway, received a 2014 Featured Actor Tony Award for his performance.
