Georgia’s Serenbe Playhouse, which has earned national recognition for its large-scale outdoor productions, has partnered with the New York-based Binder Casting to expand its reach—seeking major talent from New York and across the U.S.— in advance of its 10th anniversary season, which will be announced November 15.

Artistic Director Brian Clowdus launched the non-profit in 2008, devising seasons of shows that utilize the natural settings of the Serenbe community to re-imagine how audiences experience and interact with some of the most celebrated classic and contemporary musicals of our time.

In addition to site-specific productions of Oklahoma! and The Secret Garden, in recent years Clowdus has re-staged Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel within an actual carnival, Grease at a drive-in movie, and a 2016 production of Miss Saigon that landed a Vietnam-era Huey helicopter mid-show.

Last summer, Clowdus took on his most ambitious project to date with a staging of the Tony-winning musical Titanic that incorporated an actual sinking of the luxury liner each night on one of Serenbe’s lakes.

“For our 10th Anniversary, we will be returning to our roots with stories that will shake to the core and speak to our past, present and future,” Clowdus said. “This will be our most ambitious season to date with three full-scale, larger-than-life Broadway musicals in our six-show season. With the support of Binder, we know that our talent will also be our boldest and best yet!”

A subsidiary of RWS Entertainment Group, Binder Casting has cast the Broadway productions of The Lion King, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love & Murder, The King and I, and Gypsy with Patti LuPone, as well as the film adaptations of Dreamgirls and Hairspray.

Auditions for Serenbe’s 10th anniversary season will take place in Atlanta and New York City.

“Serenbe Playhouse is synonymous with creativity and bold immersive theatre,” stated Bruston Manuel, chief operating officer of Binder Casting. “This partnership aligns with our company’s mission of providing top-notch talent to the best in the business, and we couldn’t be more excited to cast for the theatre’s 10th anniversary season.”
