Canadian weapons scientist Gerald Bull was murdered in Belgium in 1990 while working on a "super-gun" for Iraq. Now Canadian playwright Jason Sherman's dramatization of the incident, Three in the Back, Two in the Head, will have its West Coast premiere when it opens April 2. Claudia Jaffee directs for the West Coast Ensemble.

Written in 1994, Three in the Back, Two in the Head won the Canadian Governor General's literary award and landed Off-Broadway a year later.

A political thriller, the play focuses on Paul Jackson, a young Toronto teacher, trying to determine if the CIA ordered the execution of his scientist father. Featured in the cast are Jason Broad, Dick DeCoit, Cheryl McWilliams, Tom Paliferro and David Mark Peterson.

Sherman has been writing for the stage for eight years. He made his mark in 1991 with A League of Nations, a play about how Jews see Israel. Sherman's latest work, It's All True, recently opened to glowing reviews at the Tarragon Theatre in Toronto.
