SAN DIEGO -- "A journey through the souls of most men takes about 90 seconds. Round trip."
Thus speaks the sardonic Wall Street broker Victoria Phillips (played by Linda Purl) in Getting and Spending, the Broadway-bound play by Michael J. Chepiga making its world premiere at the Old Globe Theatre, Aug. 1.
The production is scheduled to begin Broadway previews Sept. 28 and open Oct. 15 at the Helen Hayes Theatre.
"Phillips makes a fortune from insider trading but gives all the money she makes to the poor and homeless," said a company spokesperson. "Now, facing a felony indictment, she must get the nation's greatest defense attorney, Richard O'Neill (James Morrison), to represent her. This is no easy feat, considering that O'Neill has taken refuge from the world in a monastery after a devastating loss from his last trial. And he's just days away from taking his vows."
Getting and Spending is directed by John Tillinger, a veteran of Broadway and West End productions. Tillinger's credits include The Sunshine Boys with Tony Randall and Jack Klugman, and Inherit the Wind with George C. Scott and Charles Durning.
The cast for Getting and Spending, also includes MacIntyre Dixon (Brother Thaddeus/Judge Keefe), David Lansbury (Charles Humboldt), Debra Mooney (Mary Phillips), Kali Rocha (Elizabeth Panelli) and Derek Smith (Brother Alfred).
