Colfer's project, entitled "The Little Leftover Witch," is based on a children's book of the same name by Florence Laughlin.

The book follows the story of a witch who is stranded on the ground for a year after she crash lands her broom. She is taken in by the Doon family and must learn to compromise and change.

A release date for the pilot has not yet been announced.

Colfer is currently finishing production on "Glee," where he stars as Kurt Hummel, the openly gay teenager. After production wraps this spring, he will join the cast for the show's summer concert tour.

The actor has been nominated for an Emmy Award and a Screen Actors Guild Award and won the Golden Globe for his performance on "Glee," and plans to return for the third season.
