COSTA MESA, CA -- A staged reading of Daniel Goldfarb's Adam Baum and the Jew Movie will take place Oct. 5 on South Coast Rep's mainstage at 7.30 PM. The reading is part of the NewSCRipts Reading Series.
"Samuel Baum hires a Gentile screenwriter to draft a script about anti- semitism, not expecting it to be written from a Jewish perspective," said a company spokesperson. "A heated argument between the two men over what it means to be an American Jew continues at the Bar Mitzvah of Baum's son, Adam, who becomes an unwilling participant."
Set in the 1940s, the play was suggested by a two-line story Ring Lardner Jr. told about his father's dealings with Samuel Goldwyn.
Tickets are $8. The SCR is at 655 Town Center Drive.
