News Golf: The Musical Hooks Up With The Golf Channel, Offering Peek at "Fore" Play Dec. 9-17 Could anyone have predicted there would one day be such a thing as Golf: The Musical or something called The Golf Channel?

Well, here they are — and together. The new Off-Broadway musical revue about the popular pasttime gets airtime on cable's The Golf Channel Dec. 9 and 10, and Dec. 17.

Television's "first and only network devoted to the world of golf" welcomes "the cast and creators of Off-Broadway's first and only musical revue devoted to the world of golf," according to an announcement.

Segments of the new Off-Broadway revue will be seen in a series of musical and interview segments shot especially for The Golf Channel.

The Golf Channel's "Golf Central" program, featuring Golf Channel reporter Rich Lerner, will air two separate segments about Golf: The Musical 7:30 PM (ET), Dec. 9 and 10 (check your local listings).

Each segment will look at a different aspect of the show and will feature performance and rehearsal footage, interviews with producer Eric Krebs, lyricist-composer Michael Roberts, "and conversations with members of the cast and audience members at a recent performance." At 10 PM (ET) Dec. 17, PGA tour pro and Golf Channel personality Peter Jacobsen welcomes the cast of Golf to his program, "Plugged-In." That particular episode will be devoted to the "All Jake Team Awards," an annual year-end Golf Channel award created by Jacobsen to recognize the sport's unique personalities, memorable moments and unusual events from the year's golfing season.

Golf creator Michael Roberts will receive the award from Jacobsen, who will then join the cast to perform several selections from the Off-Broadway musical, including production numbers about Tiger Woods and a "Letterman-like" countdown of reasons for a show on golf.

Golf: The Musical, which got encouraging reviews, features songs and comic skits by Michael Roberts, with direction and choreography by Christopher Scott. The show is produced by Eric Krebs and features in the cast two-time Tony Award nominee Joel Blum, Trisha Rapier, Christopher Sutton and Sal Viviano.

Musical direction is by Ken Lundie.

Performances began Oct. 8 (official opening was Nov. 19) and continue Wednesdays through Fridays at 8 PM, Saturdays at 2:30 and 8 PM and Sundays at 3 and 7 PM at The John Houseman Theater Center (450 West 42nd Street between Ninth and Tenth Avenues).

Tickets are $40 and may be purchased at at (212) 239-6200. Visit
