Red Roses, Green Gold, the new Off-Broadway musical that features music by members of The Grateful Dead rock group, has extended for a second time at the Minetta Lane Theatre. The show, which began performances October 11 and was previously extended through January 7, 2018, is now scheduled to play through March 18.

Red Roses, Green Gold tells the story of Jackson Jones and his family of swindlers as they gamble their way to love and riches in 1920s Cumberland, USA.

The show has songs mainly composed by Robert Hunter and the late Jerry Garcia of The Grateful Dead, but also features contributions from band alums Phil Lesh, Bob Weir, and Mickey Hart, as well as Bill Kreutzmann. Grateful Dead touring member Jeff Chimenti serves as music supervisor and arranger.

Red Roses, Green Gold officially opened Off-Broadway October 29. The musical features a book by Michael Norman Mann and direction and choreography by Rachel Klein.

The cast is made up of Brian Russell Carey (A Christmas Carol), Maggie Hollinbeck (Once national tour), David Park (Matthew McConaughey vs. The Devil), Michael McCoy Reilly (Hoots & Hellmouth), Natalie Storrs (Sister Act national tour), Debbie Christine Tjong (Howl at the Moon), Michael Viruet (Pitch Perfect), and Scott Wakefield (Ring of Fire).

The production features music direction by Andy Peterson (More Than All The World), scenic design by Robert Andrew Kovach (The Anthem), costume design by Ásta Bennie Hostetter (The Wolves), lighting design by Jamie Roderick (That Bachelorette Show), sound design by Kim Carbone (The Lady Drug Dealer and the Heist) and Ben Scheff (No Room for Wishing), and projection design by Brad Peterson (Cats).

“We’re thrilled that fans of the Garcia/Hunter songbook have embraced this show so emphatically, and that it’s allowed us to extend our run at the Minetta Lane Theatre,” said MWM Co-Founder and CEO Gigi Pritzker in a statement. “We look forward to sharing this electrifying night of music with many more audiences in New York and beyond.”
