News GrooveLily Performs Sleeping Beauty Wakes at TheatreWorks Jan. 8 GrooveLily band members Brendan Milburn, Valerie Vigoda and Gene Lewin offer a benefit concert of Sleeping Beauty Wakes at Palo Alto's TheatreWorks Jan. 8.

The 8 PM concert features the GrooveLily trio performing music and vocals in their contemporary take on the fairy tale. Sleeping Beauty Wakes was originally commissioned by the Deaf West Theatre and premiered in 2007 as a co-production with Center Theatre Group in Los Angeles.

According to press notes, GrooveLily members "give this classic children's story an exciting and decidedly modern twist when, after her centuries long snooze, Beauty wakes to find herself far from her magic kingdom, in a contemporary sleep disorder clinic where all the princes seem to have disappeared."

Sleeping Beauty Wakes was released on disc by PS Classics last season. GrooveLily's latest musical, Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, was presented as part of TheatreWorks' 2009 New Works Festival.

Tickets, ranging $75-$225 (VIP), are available by phoning (650) 463-1960 or by visiting TheatreWorks. Proceeds will benefit TheatreWorks' education and outreach programs.

The Lucie Stern Theatre is located at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto, CA.
