News GrooveLily Will Return to TheatreWorks With Striking 12 The indie rock band GrooveLily will perform their acclaimed holiday musical Striking 12 to celebrate the New Year at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto later this month.

Band members Valerie Vigoda, Brendan Milburn and Gene Lewin will perform their musical take on the Hans Christian Anderson tale of "The Little Match Girl," which will be presented Dec. 28-31. The trio, along with Rachael Sheinkin, developed the musical at TheatreWorks as part of the New Works Initiative. Striking 12 received its North California premiere there in 2004 and enjoyed an Off-Broadway run in 2006. GrooveLily has developed Sleeping Beauty Wakes, Ernest Shackleton Loves Me and Long Story Short with TheatreWorks in recent seasons.

Here's how TheatreWorks bills Striking 12: "Can a girl selling light bulbs that cure the blues brighten up a grumpy guy with attitude? Created and performed by alternative rock trio GrooveLily, this illuminating concert fires up the story of a grumpy office worker dead-set upon spending New Year's Eve all by himself. But his plans of solitude are thwarted by an energetic young lady selling mood-boosting yuletide lights whose unyielding holiday spirit warms his heart."

The special 10 PM New Year's Eve performance will be followed by a champagne toast. For tickets phone (650) 463-1960 or visit TheatreWorks.
