The latest bio-jukebox musical to hit Broadway is off to a strong start. Ain’t Too Proud — The Life and Times of the Temptations kicked off its run at the Imperial Theatre February 28. In its first three preview performances, the musical played to 97.47 percent capacity.
With a gross of $472,627, the show reached 87.54 percent of its potential in its first weekend, putting it on track to break the $1 million barrier during a full week before officially opening March 21.
Hamilton led the pack with $3,085,520, with eight other shows, including Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, The Lion King, and To Kill a Mockingbird, each following with seven figures.
