News Gurney to Discuss Children at Westport Country Playhouse The Westport Country Playhouse will hold a special talk with playwright A.R. Gurney following the matinee of his play Children on May 31.

Westport associate artistic director David Kennedy will lead the discussion with Gurney that will center on his latest play and his extensive body of work. The 3 PM symposium is presented free to the public.

"I'm so excited to have this conversation with Pete Gurney," Kennedy said in a statement. "How often do we get to ask questions of such a legendary writer? Children is such a complex and beautiful play, and Pete has such a history with the Playhouse, I know that there will be a lot of fascinating ground to cover."

As previously reported, John Tillinger will direct the production that premieres at the Westport Country Playhouse May 26-June 13 and will later arrive at the Williamstown Theatre Festival July 1-12.

The cast includes Tony Award-winning actress Katie Finneran (Noises Off, Mauritius), Emmy winner Judith Light (Wit, "Ugly Betty"), as well as Mary Bacon (Rock 'n' Roll) and James Waterston (Buffalo Gal).

"In Children," press notes read, "an estranged brother's return to the family summer home off the coast of Massachusetts and a mother's impending marriage recall painful memories of a father's death, causing love affairs to crumble and family secrets to explode." A.R. Gurney is the author of Love Letters, The Dining Room, Sylvia, The Cocktail Hour, Indian Blood and Crazy Mary. His plays have earned him Lucille Lortel, Drama Desk and Rockefeller awards.
