Hair Today, Book Tomorrow

It has been a Tony-ignored musical, a Milos Forman movie, a Tony-winning revival and, soon, Hair will be a coffee table book with lots and lots of pictures.

Will there be nudity in those pictures? “I don’t know yet,” admitted the book’s author, theatre critic Eric Grode, who just turned in his manuscript. He said the thought of captioning the shortcomings of hundreds of actor would prompt him to give back his advance. "It’s not worth it," he said.

Carlton, a U.K. company, is publishing the book overseas and packaging it here with Running Press. “Because a U.K. company commissioned this, they’ve got a whole other set of libel laws to go through,” said Grode.

He expects the book to come this fall, and he can’t wait to see what the title will be. “There are different names for it right now. I’m rooting for ‘The Dawning of an Age.’”
