News Hairspray Star Cast in FOX TV Pilot Kerry Butler, who is currently starring as Penny Pingleton in this season's runaway hit, Hairspray, has been cast in a new FOX TV pilot.

Variety reports that the actress will play Molly in the yet-untitled pilot from the duo who penned “Malcolm in the Middle,” Michael Glouberman and Andrew Orenstein. The sitcom will concern a pair of fraternal twins — a brother and sister in their twenties — who become roommates after several years apart. The industry paper also says that the show’s writers will executive produce along with Brian Robbins, Michael Tollin and Joe Davola. Kerry Butler has starred on Broadway as Belle in Beauty and the Beast, Eponine in Les Misérables and Ms. Jones in Blood Brothers. Off-Broadway she was seen in Bat Boy The Musical, The “I” Word, Prodigal and The Folsom Head. Butler’s screen credits include “Borough of Kings,” “Campfire Stories,” “One Life to Live,” “Second Honeymoon,” “Another World,” “Hometown” and “Sesame Street.”

Starring Harvey Fierstein as Edna Turnblad and Marissa Jaret Winokur as Tracy Turnblad, Hairspray also features Butler, Laura Bell Bundy, Mary Bond Davis, Linda Hart, Dick Latessa, Matthew Morrison, Corey Reynolds, Clarke Thorell and Danelle Eugenia Wilson.
