LOS ANGELES -- Harold Gould and Bridget Hanley are the stars of Steve Allen's new musical A Christmas Carol, which continues through Jan. 9, 2000 at Theatre West. The show opened Nov. 24, 1999.

Allen, who adapted the Dickens story and wrote the music and lyrics, appears on stage as Charles Dickens at most performances, with celebrity guests replacing him on selected dates. On Dec. 10 Assemblyman Scott Wildman will be spotlighted.

Gould appears as Scrooge, Hanley as Tiny Tim's mother. John Gallogly is the director.

Gould, a longtime member of Theatre West, appeared in such hit TV series as "Rhoda" and "The Golden Girls." He has received an Obie Award and an L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for his stage work. He starred recently in Visiting Mr. Green at the Pasadena Playhouse.

Hanley is a well-known TV and stage actress who won last season's ADA award from the Valley Theatre League for her performance in Bronwen, The Traw & The Shape Shifter at Theatre West. Allen, singled out in the Guinness Book of Records as the world's most prolific songwriter, is perhaps best known for his work in television, notably "The Steve Allen Show." Noel Coward called him "the most talented man in America."

Others in the cast include David Brandt, Lynn Chester, Brian Penwick, Caitlin Gallogly, Mary Garripoli, Murphy Giller, Graham Jackson, Peter Jason, Molly Reynolds, Faith Salie and Kevin Symons.

A Christmas Carol is being produced under an Equity letter of Agreement and will be performed eight times a week.

Aladdin And His Lamp, the children's show which went on hiatus in November to make way for Allen's musical, will re-open Jan. 15, 2000 and continue through Feb. 5. Showtime is Saturdays at 1 PM.

Theatre West is located at 333 Cahuenga Blvd. W. For tickets and information call (888) 551-WEST.
