News Hartford Will Offer Free Reading of Hudes' 26 Miles 26 Miles — the new play from Tony Award nominee Quiara Hudes, who was named the Aetna New Voices Fellow for the 2008-2009 season at Hartford Stage — will be presented in a free reading at that venue Feb. 9.

The world premiere production of 26 Miles will be presented at the Alliance Theatre in Atlanta this March.

In 26 Miles, press notes state, "an '83 Buick Regal may be an unlikely place to find out what family really means, but when Beatriz and her estranged daughter head off into the night on a spontaneous road trip, neither mother nor daughter are prepared for what's in store. This funny and tender new play reminds audiences that the best souvenirs on the road of life are the relationships we make along the way — and that sometimes all it takes to find yourself is the power of family, Spanish in five words a day... and a herd of buffalo."

Hudes penned the book for the Tony-winning musical In the Heights. Her work also includes Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue (Pulitzer Prize finalist); Yemaya's Belly and The Adventures of Barrio Grrrl! Her play Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue launched the Brand:NEW Festival at Hartford Stage last fall.

The free public reading of 26 Miles will take place at 7:30 PM in the Hartford Stage rehearsal studios, located at 942 Main Street. Seating is on a first come, first served basis.
