As previously reported, the Dec. 15 concert at the New Amsterdam Theatre will benefit the Actors' Fund of America and is designed to "become a new, annual tradition." The evening will feature original pieces written by Tony Award winners Richard Greenberg, John Guare, Terrence McNally and David Henry Hwang as well as appearances from cast members of most every Broadway show.
Those who have recently joined the line-up of performers include the aforementioned Aidas as well as Golda's Balcony's Tovah Feldshuh, Fiddler on the Roof's Alfred Molina, Anna in the Tropics' Daphne Rubin-Vega and talk-show host Ricki Lake. They join the already announced Matthew Broderick, Gavin Creel, Stephanie D’Abruzzo, Jarrod Emick, Edie Falco, Richard Kind, Eartha Kitt, Ricki Lake, Norm Lewis, Patti LuPone, Donna McKechnie, Terrence McNally, Bebe Neuwirth, Elizabeth Parkinson, Rosie Perez, Billy Porter, Phylicia Rashad, Roger Rees, Alice Ripley, Sherie Rene Scott, Brooke Shields and Stanley Tucci. The one night-only event will also include a performance by Michael McElroy and the Broadway Inspirational Voices.
The evening is being presented by the Actors' Fund in association with Sh K-Boom Records. In a statement Sh-K-Boom President Kurt Deutsch said, "With the exception of Radio City’s Rockettes and the Rockefeller Center Tree Lighting, New York has no annual event to commemorate the Christmas season, certainly none from the Broadway community. We aim to create a new and joyful holiday tradition for the City with our yearly Benefit concert, bringing together Broadway’s best and brightest stars, every Christmas, for a great cause." Paul Dobie and Lisa Leguillo will direct the benefit.
