Detachments of the relational and retinal kind plague actress Glenne Headly in the Los Angeles premiere of Colleen Dodson-Baker's Jeff Award-winning play, opening Sept. 18 at the Tiffany Theatre. Saturday Night Live's Laraine Newman co stars in the screwball comedy,. Dodson-Baker also directs the production, which started previews Sept. 9 and runs through Oct. 29.

A member of Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company, Headly most recently appeared on stage opposite Miranda Richardson in the Almeida Theatre Company's production of Aunt Dan and Lemon. She's won two Emmy Awards for "Lonesome Dove" and "Bastard Out of Carolina" and appeared in the films "Breakfast of Champions," "Mr. Holland's Opus," "Dick Tracy" and "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels."

As one of the original Groundlings, Newman joined the "Not Ready for Prime Time Players" who became "Saturday Night Live." She stayed with the show until 1980 before departing to films, which include "Wholly Moses!, "Coneheads," "The Flintstones" and "Jingle All the Way."

In Detachments, an actress finds herself suffering a retinal detachment that is a prelude to the breakup of her long-term relationship. Dodson-Baker also penned Breaks and Straight Arrows. As an actress, she appeared in the original cast of Nine and Off-Broadway in Beth Henley's The Lucky Spot.

Completing the cast are Timothy Davis-Reed, Victor D'Altorio, Thea Mann, Jamie Rose, Albie Selznik and Ian Patrick Williams. Tickets are $25-$20. The Tiffany Theatre is located at 8532 Sunset Boulevard. For reservations, call (310) 289-2999.

Detachments is a production of the Lorretta Theatre, whose producing team is playwright Henley (Crimes of the Heart) and actress Amy Madigan. Founded in 1996, their members include Tom Bowers, James Gammon, Ed Harris, Holly Hunter, Darrell Larson and Beth Ruscio.
