A new album by Heather Headley will hit the stores sometime this summer, Headley said backstage at the 2001 Tony Awards on June 3. Headley described the recording as "Whitney Houston meets Lauryn Hill." The album will feature original pop and rhythm and blues songs, as well as one Broadway show tune yet to be selected. The record does not have a title at present. Headley won a Tony Award in 2000 for her performance in Aida. She will leave that Elton John-Tim Rice musical at the end of the summer.
