Woolly Mammoth Theatre Company's American premiere of Canadian playwright George F. Walker's Heaven has been extended to Oct. 8, and the final week has artistic director Howard Shalwitz stepping into the show. Shalwitz, who also directed the provocative and comic play about hate, will play the role of David, created in the Washington DC staging by John Lescault. Shalwitz plays a rabbi and friend of a woman (Naomi Jacobson) whose Irish husband (Mitchell Hebert), a human rights lawyer, struggles with his own prejudices. Shalwitz performs Oct. 4-8. Performances began Aug. 28 and it was originally set to continue only to Sept. 30.
