News Henry Goodman and Eileen Atkins Headline London The Birthday Party, Opening April 25 The play that first got Harold Pinter noticed when it was produced in London is now being revived there, opening April 25. The Birthday Party was widely decried as immoral when it was first staged, but is now regarded as a classic.

Henry Goodman and Finbar Lynch star as the sinister visitors Goldberg and McCann in the revival, directed by Lindsay Posner. Eileen Atkins plays the maternal Meg, with Paul Ritter as Stanley and Geoffrey Hutchings as Petey. Peter McKintosh designs. The Birmingham Repertory Theatre Company produces in association with Duncan C. Weldon. Henry Goodman's previous West End credits include Alistair Beaton's Feelgood and Chicago. His award-winning portrayal of Shylock in the National Theatre production of The Merchant of Venice was shortly afterwards followed by his abortive stint as Max, following Nathan Lane in The Producers on Broadway (he was controversially fired during previews).

Eileen Atkins is one of Britain's most admired actresses. She has had four Tony Best Actress nominations: for The Retreat from Moscow, Indiscretions, Vivat! Vivat Regina! and The Killing of Sister George. In recent years her movie credits have included roles in such films as "Gosford Park" and "Vanity Fair.".
