News Hercules Battles Foes at the Fringe Hercules in High Suburbia, a comic, rock-n-roll update of Euripides' tragedy Heracles, will play at the New York International Fringe Festival Aug. 12-28.

Written and directed by Mary Fulham, with original songs by Paul Foglino, the show was originally presented in New York last year at La MaMa E.T.C. Fulham is the artistic director of Watson Arts, a resident company at La MaMa. Hercules in High Suburbia is set in a gated community where wealth and fame are no guarantee against the power of wickedness or the malevolence of chance. While the play is inspired by the ancient Greek tragedy, the music flows from the spirit and style of the 1950s, the moment when Delta blues became rock and roll.

The cast includes Ellen Foley (Megara), Postell Pringle (Hercules), Hal Blankenship (Zeus), Neal Young (Lycus, Theseus) and Dana Vance (Madness).

The show plays at the Mazer Theatre, 197 East Broadway. Tickets are $15. Call (212) 279-4488 or go to www.fringenyc.org.
