News Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain to Receive World Premiere at the West End's Garrick Theatre
Horrible Histories — Barmy Britain, a new play for audience aged six and older, based on the best-selling children's stories of the same name, is to receive its world premiere at the West End's Garrick Theatre, beginning performances Feb. 14 prior to an official opening Feb. 24, for a season of daytime morning and matinee performances.

It is written for the stage by Terry Deary, Neal Foster (who also directs) and Ciaran McConville. Deary, the creator of "Horrible Histories," has written around 50 of the stories, with total sales of 25 million in 40 countries. He is also the author of over 200 fiction and non-fiction books for young people.

According to press materials, Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain "dishes the dirt on life in Britain from our rotten Roman rulers to the terrible Tudors, slimy Stuarts, gorgeous Georgians, vile Victorians, right up to the frightful First World War."

Foster is actor/manager for Birmingham Stage Company, who is presenting the show. The company, which celebrates its 20th anniversary this year, is resident at the Old Rep Theatre in Birmingham, where its shows are first created, then tour nationally and internationally. They have been touring other editions of Horrible Histories for five years throughout the U.K., Ireland, Dubai and Hong Kong. Their production of Skellig recently made its New York debut at the New Victory.

In the opening production Rex will be played by Benedict Martin and Queenie by Lauryn Redding.
