Hamilton is heading to Puerto Rico, and you can be in the room where it happens—with Lin-Manuel Miranda.
The Tony and Pulitzer Prize winner, who is slated to return to the title role when his musical plays San Juan for 24 performances only, has launched a new campaign with the online platform Prizeo, offering those who donate a chance to attend the January 11, 2019, opening night performance and party, plus travel and lodging accommodations.
Entries are $10, which will go to the Flamboyan Arts Fund, which Miranda created with his family and producer Jeffrey Seller in partnership with the Flamboyan Foundation. The initiative aims to preserve and support the arts in Puerto Rico during the island’s rebuilding after the effects of Hurricane Maria.
“Puerto Rico is my family’s home—I used to spend summers there. The island is very much a part of who I am as a person and as an artist,” said Miranda in a statement. “I always knew I wanted to bring Hamilton to Puerto Rico and now, in the wake of Hurricane Maria, it makes even more sense to work with Prizeo to raise funds for the arts while getting to spend time with a lucky winner who is excited about both Hamilton and supporting efforts in Puerto Rico.”
Miranda has partnered with Prizeo for Hamilton experiences in the past, including a campaign supporting the U.K.-based National Resources Defense Council as the musical made its West End premiere.
The Puerto Rico engagement will run January 8–27 at the Teatro UPR before the company (sans Miranda) embarks on a third national tour.
