The Mainstage season for the resident Equity troupe begins with the Florida premiere of Hunka Hunka Burnin' Love, "an Elvis Presley Musical Tribute," conceived and produced by Jack Lewin and created by Will Friedwald, Jay Leonhart and Jack Lewin. The show had previous runs in New York City (at Au Bar) and Michigan (its world premiere). The Caldwell production is the second U.S. engagement following its debut at the Mason Street Warehouse in Saugatuck, MI.
Kurt Stamm directed in Michigan, and again pilots the show in the Sunshine State.
The musical is billed as "a celebration of the large volume of work that made Elvis Presley a star and acclaimed musician of almost every style of music." It's "not an Elvis impersonation, but a celebration of nearly 80 of the songs he made famous, recorded and/or performed in concert."
Three singers are backed up by a five-piece band in the show. Hunka features Kelly King, Ryan Link and Tom LoSchiavo. Caldwell Theatre Company is under the leadership of artistic and managing director Michael Hall.
