TheatreWorks founding artistic director Robert Kelley stages the production that officially opens Aug. 29 and will run through Sept. 20. Jue, who also appeared in the Public Theater production of Yellow Face, leads a cast that also includes Pun Bandhu, Robert Ernst, Amy Resnick, Howard Swain, Thomas Azar and Tina Chilip.

Press notes for Yellow Face read: "Asian activist and playwright D.H.H., based on Hwang himself, mistakenly casts a non-Asian actor in an Asian role in his new play. While resorting to sometimes convoluted solutions to avoid scrutiny from his contemporaries, D.H.H. is ultimately forced to reconsider his own concepts of Asian American identity. This Obie Award winner is a tale of cultural politics, family fortunes, and artistic integrity, and offers an insightful look at the pitfalls and promise of our 'politically correct' world."

The design team includes John Wilson (scenic design), Fumiko Bielefeldt (costume design), Steve Mannshardt (lighting design) and Cliff Caruthers (sound design).

Hwang earned the Tony, Drama Desk and Outer Critics Circle Award for his Broadway debut with M. Butterfly. His additional Broadway credits include the books for the musicals Aida, Tarzan and the 2002 revival of Flower Drum Song. Hwang has collaborated with composer Philip Glass on the operas 1000 Airplanes on the Roof, The Voyage and The Sound of a Voice.
