PlayBlog "I’m Breaking Down" in Song A stage musical adaptation of Pedro Almodóvar’s 1988 film “Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown” may arrive on Broadway via Lincoln Center Theater next season, the New York Post reports.

Tony Award-winning director Bartlett Sher (South Pacific, Light in the Piazza) staged an early summer reading of the musical that has a score by Tony-nominated Dirty Rotten Scoundrels collaborators David Yazbeck (score) and Jeffrey Lane (book/lyrics).

The Post says that LCT artistic director Andre Bishop was pleased with the readings and that the production could find a Broadway house in time for Tony season.

The Oscar-nominated film centers on Pepa, a voice-over actress on a mission to deliver an important secret to her philandering boyfriend, Iván. A two-day chase ensues, involving Iván’s mentally insane ex-wife, her son Carlos, Shiite terrorists, a mambo-loving taxi driver, gazpacho laced with sleeping pills and a charred bed.

For those who haven't seen the movie, here is the original North American trailer, which includes a blink-and-you'll-miss-him pre-Hollywood Antonio Banderas:
