News Idle Chatter: Spamalot Creator Ad-Libs While Actors Battle Transit Strike Traffic Monty Python's Spamalot creator Eric Idle found himself centerstage for the Dec. 21 matinee of his Tony Award-winning musical on Broadway while members of his company made their way through transit strike traffic.

A production spokesperson confirmed what the Daily News is reporting—that two actors en route to their 2 PM curtain contacted Shubert Theatre staff to let them know they were stuck in Queens and would not make their call on time.

The 2005 Best Musical Tony winner recently crowned London stage star Simon Russell Beale (Jumpers) as the new King Arthur and Broadway veteran Lauren Kennedy (Side Show) became The Lady of the Lake Dec. 20.

Beale and Kennedy joined original star Azaria and David Hyde Pierce in the work.
