A production spokesperson confirmed what the Daily News is reporting—that two actors en route to their 2 PM curtain contacted Shubert Theatre staff to let them know they were stuck in Queens and would not make their call on time.
So, the not-so-rusty stage performer Idle — who happened to be on hand at the theatre — took the stage to entertain the matinee audience while the actors commuted. He, at one point, pulled star Hank Azaria on stage to help.
The 2005 Best Musical Tony winner recently crowned London stage star Simon Russell Beale (Jumpers) as the new King Arthur and Broadway veteran Lauren Kennedy (Side Show) became The Lady of the Lake Dec. 20.
Beale and Kennedy joined original star Azaria and David Hyde Pierce in the work.
