Classic Arts News In Honor of the Vienna Philharmonic, Austria Mints 'World's Biggest Coin' The Austrian Mint has created what it calls the "world's biggest coin," a 68-pound slab of gold, in honor of the Vienna Philharmonic, Agence France-Press reports.
The government minted only 15 of the coins, which measure 14.5 inches in diameter and bear an image of the orchestra's famed concert hall on one side and musical instruments on the other. The face value of one of the coins, dubbed "Big Phil," is roughly $121,000. They are currently valued at $500,000.

One Big Phil was introduced Tuesday, October 6, at a Fifth Avenue art gallery in Manhattan, with white gloves handed out to those wishing to touch the coin. Other coins were unveiled in Tokyo, Vienna, and Munich.
