Critically acclaimed film director, Hal Hartley will be producing his latest piece, Soon, as a play with music at the Salzburg Festival in Austria, July 30 through Aug. 14.

Soon, written and directed by Hartley, deals with cults and the people who subscribe to them -- specifically those whose beliefs anxiously anticipate the end of the world. Thematically including the events of Waco, TX, David Koresh and the history of Christian Apocalyptic Evangelism in the United States.

Hartley's script for his latest film, Henry Fool, won best screenplay honors at the Cannes film festival. The film opened in U.S. theatres June 19. Fool is loosely based on Faust, and tells the story of a social reject of a garbage man who transforms into a renowned poet through the urges of the new tenant in his building.

Fool stars Parker Posey and downtown NY theatre regulars: Thomas Jay Ryan (My Head was a Sledgehammer, Mac Wellman's Dracula), Obie Award-winning James Urbaniak (The Universe, Mamba's Daughters).

Other films by Hartley include: The Unbelievable Truth, Flirt, Amateur and Simple Men. -- By Sean McGrath
