LOS ANGELES--Its first production was banned in Paris, but times have changed, so now Jean Cocteau's Indiscretions is produced without a hint of protest from the community.

The Los Angeles premiere, opening June 20, staged by the Pacific Resident Theatre of Venice, retains all of the sensation witnessed by the original French audiences, including infidelity, adultery and mistaken identity.

Cocteau's play is the energetic story of a dysfunctional bourgeois family. Yvonne, the mother, is an eccentric given to melodramatic explosions. Her life is thrown into disarray when the "love of her life," her son Michael, falls in love with a woman named Madeleine. Yvonne's husband George is shocked to hear that his son Michael's new love is the mistress he has been supporting for some time. And Leo, Yvonne's sister, tries to keep sanity reigning, although she was once engaged to George and is still in love with him.

Indiscretions, or Les Parents Terribles, plays at 8 PM Thursday through Saturday and 7 PM on Sunday, closing July 26. Pacific Resident Theatre is at 703 Venice Blvd., Venice, California. Tickets are $25 for opening night, $20 thereafter. For information or reservations, call (213) 660-TKTS.
