News Inherit the Wind Panel Discussion Set for April 23 "From the Stage to the Front Page: The Resonance of Inherit the Wind" is the title of an upcoming panel discussion at Makor.

The April 23 evening will feature a panel of religious and secular speakers, who will discuss the conflicts between evolution and creationism. Those conflicts were at the center of the Scopes "Monkey" trial, which was the basis for Jerome Lawrence and Robert E. Lee's 1955 courtroom drama Inherit the Wind, which is returning to Broadway this season.

The Inherit the Wind revival — starring Christopher Plummer and Brian Dennehy — will begin previews March 19 at the Lyceum Theatre with an official opening April 12. Members of the show's creative team will take part in the upcoming Makor discussion as well as author and rabbi David Nelson. The discussion will begin at 7 PM.

Inherit The Wind, according to press notes, is "a fictionalized retelling of the famous 1925 'Monkey Trial,' in which science teacher John Scopes was tried and convicted for teaching Darwin’s theory of evolution, violating a Tennessee law that forbade teaching any theory that conflicted with the biblical conception of divine creation."

Makor is a program of the 92nd Street Y and is located in Manhattan at 35 West 67th Street. Tickets, priced $10, are available by calling (212) 601-1000 or by visiting
